Can I enter my EV ?

POSSIBLY

Any one who is interested in competing, or even just practice up the hill is encouraged to lodge an expression of interest.  The entry committee will assess the experience of the driver and also the power of the EV entered, and determine the risk & eligibility to be offered a start.

Not all expressions of interest will be offered a start. i.e in the situation where an enthusiastic EV driver who has just purchased the latest EV, with no motorsport experience, enters an extremely fast car – it is unlikely they will be allowed to run in competition, as motorsport is dangerous.

Even though the Rob Roy Hillclimb looks benign, there are some very technical elements to the track, and the risk of accident and injury can be real.

But – if you would like to have a go, but are unsure if you will be offered a spot, please fill out the expression of interest and lets have a chat.  The opportunity for training may appeal before graduating to competition.

Is this event just for EVs ?

YES

All makes and models of battery electric vehicles and some battery hybrids will be allowed.

Any make, any model and even classic cars restored as an EV.

There are plenty of opportunities to run your ICE car, race car, daily driver ( or even a foot race ) up Rob Roy during the year – so we are not anti old cars etc, we are just promoting EVs, and in future hope EVs can be incorporated into regular motorsport competition.

Is there driver training available ?

YES

If you do not wish to compete or have no experience in competing but would like to compete in the future, then a “come and try” event application is possible.

You'll get a number of untimed runs up the hill with an instructor to avoid any “rush of blood” that may risk damaging your vehicle. These spots are limited due to the number of accredited instructors we can offer.  But we encourage everyone to have a go, and this might be a good introduction for you.

What do I need to compete ?

6. Stickers – refer MA rules – Race numbers will be available on the day.

8. You do not need a log book.

9. Any modern vehicles are not permitted to have modifications from stock, unless logbooked.

10. Classic EV Restorations are required to be road registered.

11. Unregistered EV’s, will be assessed on a case by case basis, it is unlikely that a home built EV with no certification will be allowed to run, however if an EV possess certification and is not registered it will be considered.

All Motorsport Australia events are governed by the Supplementary Event Regulations (Supp Regs)  which are specific to the event.  When the Supp Regs are submitted and subsequently approved by MA, we will publish these and may be other requirements specific to this event.  If you are experienced in Motorsport, this will be no surprise to this process.  If you are new to motorsport, then just ask questions if you are unsure.  We aim to encourage everyone to compete.
